Are We Keeping You? by Jeffrey ParrenThe only time
this question is posed
is when
they have worn out
that unspoken welcome feeling.
"Are we keeping you?"
(Yes, but
if I say that
I lose my job
and we don't want that,
do we?)
"No, no.
You are fine.
I still have stuff to do."
And that stuff
refers to
staring at them
and refilling their water
until they have to pee so bad
that they get up
to use the bathroom
and just leave
or realize I am
waiting on them
only them
and filling the water
is the only thing
left to do
and no one else
is waiting on anyone else.
You are the last people on Earth
still in a restaurant.
Keeping me?
Keeping me hostage. 03/25/2009 Posted on 03/25/2009 Copyright © 2024 Jeffrey Parren

Posted by George Hoerner on 03/25/09 at 11:45 PM I like this Jeffrey, but you know, we are all hostage to something. Some to the job, some to the church, most to themselves and they don't even know it. Good write though. |
