Elexa

by Joan Serratelli

Born too soon
they worried
about you

But the first time
I saw you
I just knew

You would
be ok
you were strong
and beautiful

Kicking and screaming
you would soon
go home
with your parents
(the way it was supposed
to be)

And so
you grew
you learned
how to walk
and talk
and feed yourself

A beautiful little girl
pink,
precious
and smart

I wish
I could
see you
and play

I wish
I was
more a part
of your life
than I am

I love you
Elexa
please realize
that it's miles
that keep us apart
not love

Tell Mommy
to visit
I miss you
so much

Tell Mommy
to give you
all of my love

Author's Note: This is for my other Grandchild who lives in another state. I just wanted her to know that her Grandmother loves herr and thinks about her everyday!

Beautiful Joan...the missing is such a void. Hope she fills your arms soon. Thanks.

This is a wonderful loving gesture. I hope her Mom frames this poem and puts it in her room!

"please realize that it's miles that keep us apart not love" these are my favorite lines. You make me look forward to being a grandmother.
