Depression

by Genevieve Sturrock

i've been boxing cotton
going 10 rounds with batting
wrapped in fluff
suffocating
clinging
slowing me down
dulling my senses
vision impaired
deaf to the world
desensitized to
the touch of others
i may seem complacent
quietly sitting
in my corner
staring off
into space
but i'm fighting
for my life
weeping from frustration
exhausted to my soul
for i've been boxing cotton

Words spoken from what seems within my own soul. You made me cry.

Obviously, you know those first couple of lines are awesome. This is good stuff all around though.

I like the play on words here (cotton/batting), though not sure how it applies to depression, having suffered from depression myself from time to time. Everyone is different though, and I do epathize with the honest emotion of this piece.

You took my breath away with this one... very well put. I can't stop reading it over and over. Thanks for sharing!

This piece is one of your best- it really conveys the message that you are trying to get across- depression (I can relate- I stare into space ALOT!) Wonderful write!

this is my world right about now - minus the cotton - add a computer screen at a sterile law firm - yup - my world.
