a mid summer's night dream in February by Nanette Bellmani dreamt of mythical creatures.
centaurs as chess pieces.
the black and white checkerboard squares
left me feeling
as Alice in Wonderland
but with less wonder.
you were inside me
while you tossed me
in an ocean of sheets.
i tried to play coy
because i know
this is never supposed to happen.
i'd call it a memory
but we were never fortunate enough
to have these kind of moments.
you know, the ones worth remembering.
nights ago, i dreamt of you
running through a supermarket.
you were right on my heels.
i was frantically looking for him
while being chased by you.
and when i found him,
we found him together.
he denied he knew me.
you didn't exist to him either.
and we all had cuffs on our wrists.
i escaped from them,
stole an Impala with no brakes
and met you in a field
and then a house
were a party was being held
for my nephews.
he was there too.
but this time
he wouldn't let you near me. 02/12/2009 Author's Note: no pills needed.

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 11/27/14 at 02:38 PM I have always wondered who these characters are who habit our dreams, the some of which are familiar to us and the most which are not? How the dream factory seems to concoct them at will, for us to puzzle over when we wake, that egg us on to write lovely odes in the interim. |
