lost in Tom Jones

by Charlie Morgan

i strain to be me;
and like Tom Jones,
'it's not easy.'

i've been poor, sometimes
in spirit, mostly money.
Tom ought to try that.

wish women wanted me
like they do him.
but, alas, not to be.

she's a lady, he opines.
well ladies are la te da!
now women, they're hungry.

it's just that a lot of women
want to be a lady, now that's
not easy either.

[the] i gets lost.
