My Happily Everafter by Maude Curtis When I was a very young girl
I would always dream
of a handsome young prince
who would ride up on a white horse,
bend down and sweep me off my feet.
and in my innocent dreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
As a gangly young teenager
when my brother wed his love,
I would close my eyes
and hope someday it'd be me
laughing and smiling at my husband
and in my daydreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
Then you came along
and my dreams had come true.
We were so young and so much in love.
My life was perfect.
What could ever go wrong?
and in my hopeful dreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
As we laid in each others arms,
before you left for the war,
we promised our love forever.
Not knowing when you would come home,
I prayed to God to keep you safe
and in my worried dreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
Then I lost your love
through my foolish ways,
not realizing just what I had
until it was too late to mend
your broken heart or mine.
and in my tearful dreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
As I laid next to yet another man,
who would never measure up to you,
I'd think over the past years
and how I had wasted my life
searching for the love I had lost
and in my drunken dreams I would think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
I have sown my wild oats in life
and had to reap what they bore.
I have salvaged what I could
and lived my life the best I knew
without your love to keep me warm
and in my waning dreams I think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
I wished that I could find you
and tell you of the fool I've been.
Now my wish has come true
and you say you care but you are tied
to vows that you cannot break
and in my sorrowful dreams I think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?
I dream of us in our golden years
sitting by a small campfire.
A little blond girl snuggled in your lap,
she hugs you and whispers sweetly,
"Poppie, can we make Smores?"
and in my dreams I think
My happily everafter, will it ever be?

A little country girl who loved Shalimar and Yellow roses and could thread a needle with an International Harvester tractor. She could Cleaned up real good, and made Jessica Simpson look like pig patties.. We somehow never forget the first one...even if she got away and we continued on with our lives, that little candle always burns bright just on the edge on our visual memories, and never goes out. If I was reincarnated I think I should came back as a 1952 Nash.....Rambler...I degress...I degress..."$@* (^&%" do I degress..... |

PS I really like smores, and warm blazing campfires too...P |
