a real cut up

by Kristina Woodhill

i kidney not
she had the gall
to turn my stomach

i should have taken
her words
when she said she
loved to share

i do not ask for an eye
though leaving only one
might help to
clear the bile of her
perspective

we both cut along our dotted lines
(a graft in our connection)
why, now, do I count
one more rippling
scar than hers

i would die
to claim my autopsy
my laid-out full disclosure

you had better double glove
for i have not felt my beat
since her last slash and run

and i see my donor card
has been punched

more than once

Author's Note: Drat... My link to the news article did not succeed. A man who donated his kidney to his wife, is now suing for divorce as she cheated on him. He is asking for $1.5mil in payment for his kidney.

Huh. I've always said, divorce is like an amputation; you survive, but there's less of you. I never thought there would be an actual case. Amazing. Thanks.

A wry, humorous, and apt commentary on that news event. It appears callous on his part...and yet who is the more calloused?

Love that dry wit on you. As always, it suits you like crazy.

I read that article. I was flabbergasted. I love your poem. It's the perfect reaction. Very dry and humorous.

Given the perspective of the news item really enhances one's appreciation of the humor in this one. You might want to make a brief reference to it as an opening epigram for the poem. Anyway, very clever and amusing with great wordplay.... d:-)

This really would be funny, if it wasn't so sad and TRUE! Fun to read- excellent as always!
