Fate?

by George Hoerner

time wound me up
sent me on my way
stumbling through life
with this hole
from the earliest loss

always looking
for stuffing
some filling
that would
cough up the pain
allowing me
to take on
the important
joys and sorrows
of life

somehow sorrows
have been subdued
not replace by delight
but by acceptance

for poorly conceived
expectations can
rarely bring the things
of fairy tales
and reality
keeps close tabs
on anticipation

and fates index finger
points both in and out
of our minds eye

Absolutely awesome image in that last stanza. Terrific stuff, man.

Aloha George... reading through this one and pondering the message within, I walk away with a thought. And that thought is of a need to remain focused in whatever direction one believes their fate or destiny is taking them. Otherwise, one will merely achieve the shot gun effect... with as man scattered results. alisa ;-)

p.s. typo alert.. I meant to say..'with as many scattered results'

George, you could give all the great philosophers and existentialists a run for their money. your poetry is always on the cusp of the curious, which would envy any make of cat, the sort of curiosity which does not kill but aspires to more abundant life.
