Buying the Apple by Alison McKenzieMy new tennis shoes
Are on the floor
Just under my best blue jeans
My favorite sweater
And my book bag,
Blank paper and
Freshly sharpened #2s.
There is a youthful flutter
In this old heart
But this time,
I dont care if the popular kids like me
Or if I make the team
This time is for me,
And my future
And everything I thought
I could never do.
12/30/2008 Author's Note: I go back to school on January 5th! I'm excited and a little nervous. I honestly don't know if my old brain can handle all the new information. Plus, just having been diagnosed with diabetes, too much sugar in the blood also means the brain is one of the organs that hasn't been getting fed enough oxygen. LOL. (Even though it truly isn't a laughing matter at all). Well, we shall see.....one math class and two writing classes to start with. *grinning widely*

Posted by George Hoerner on 12/31/08 at 02:46 PM This is really great Alison. I was just looking at a local paper that has courses starting early Jan. I'd love to learn how to write poetry and maybe make this brain come alive again. |
Posted by Meghan Helmich on 12/31/08 at 04:27 PM good luck, darling! |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 12/31/08 at 11:17 PM I'm so jealous!!! I loved going back to school! Enjoy every minute. That first stanza just makes me smile, and your line "this time is for me" is to celebrate!! |
Posted by Mo Couts on 06/22/11 at 03:41 PM I know this is an older one, but, it's absolutely darling! Nothing like college to make you feel brand new, eh? =) |
