My Little "Goff" Girl

by Rula Shin

My little "Goff" Girl
Throws her head back
In unmistakable protest
Yet calculated

Only on a pillow
In my bed
Against my arms
Or in her bouncy

"GOFF!!"

My little "Goff" Girl
Asks for "this?" and "haay?"
For "Mai?" and "Laab?"
“Yaaaa???”

But Mommy’s a meanie
Nothing’s more true
Sorry Baby Girl
“This” and “that” aren’t for you

Backwards she throws herself
Once again
Boisterously exclaiming
Loudly proclaiming

“GOFF!”

In my bed
Against a pillow
Soft fluffy sheets
Spread all around

But Oh!!

This time she doesn't see
The laptop behind her
In the spot she chooses
To show that I’m mean

Now “GOFF!”
Turns to
"Mamma!!!"

Tears falling
Arms reaching
Thrusting herself
Forward against "Goff"

Head on my shoulder
Little hiccups
Soft Baby whimpers
My little “Goff” Girl

All “Goffed” out

Heh. Thanks for making the smiles come pretty easy with this one.

Oh, Rula, THESE are the days! Thank you for allowing me to relive them just a little bit through your life. She sounds precious!

this poem is a time machine in that it projects me back to a time that what you describe so endearingly here was happening to me and mine. Oh the wonderfullness of child rearing which I wouldn't trade for anything.
