Humble Came Last Night

by Scott Utley

i drove into gang war-fare last night by mistake.

i was in fear of a bullet

tripping through my skull

as i drove the strip.

as fast as it began it was over.

i found myself still breathing.

i'm a street kid from nyc originally,

nevertheless, i was terribly rattled by the whole, surreal experience.

today is a glorious day.

i am giving my animals plants friends and strangers

more attention then they usually get on tuesday afternoons.

i love more today than i did yesterday.

And so you would and should as per last stanza. The whole thing though very well described. I sip wine as I write this, toasting to your surviving and the resulting poem.

this reminds me of the scene in fight club where brad pitt puts a gun to the head of the convienent store clerk and tells him to go back to school. it's true, yet saddening that it takes something like this to make us more appreicative of the things around us. i've been there, first hand. and mine happened on a tuesday....great great read scott.
