strength in secrets

by Emily Davidson

no one should ever
be an open book
to someone who is not equally
candid. it is destructive
to empty your mind
your heart, your soul,
to exhaust every emotional possibility,
to throw it before someone
for comment and criticism. vulnerable,
pathetic, helpless, honest.
it sucks the life from you
it makes you unleash the inner beasts that
everyone else seems to
keep in their cage.
(i've never had a cage
and sometimes, i am the beast)
no one
should spill their sappy tempestuous monologues
to someone who wont offer the
same sincerity.
it can kill a person.
it is killing me.

Very well put. Sadly, this is quite true for some. I've always contended the opposite though, that there is strength in exposure, there's always a trade off for whatever we say and do.

The write sounds strongly truthful but I tend to agree with Chris. If you open up to someone who isn't able to accept it in a sincere manner then I think you have the right to walk away and you really haven't lost a thing. The person you have spoken to is the loser and may well be forever. Because there are people out there who will accept you as you are and cherish what you have given.

Mr. Sorrenti said it best, and I'd say you capture that sense of betryal with stunning clarity.
