a soldier's christmas (ABC)

by Aaron Michael

all battles ceasing
during evening's frosty glare,
heaving into jet-black,
kinetic light marred night open.
"outgoing, probably.."
questions raising soldiers tickingheartbeat
until voracious whitelight xplains.
yesterday, zeal and blood caromed, deadly,
erratic, for...god...
hours. i just keep
learning more nightmares
overandoverandover.
peace...quiet...rarely
surviving things under
vicious weather,
xcept yule's zest
abolishes
bloody christmases.

Man, I feel like it's been ages since I've read one of these. Really nice stuff.

Congratulations on winning 2nd in the Holiday contest! This is so timely and I enjoy the ABC structure very much.

Anyone who can pull off a double abcthing (and some) deserves a prize - so this is (and you are) a worthy recipient, and this a message worth its weight. An abc for peace, what we all wish for.

I haven't seen one of these in a while. Clever and so appropriate, especially for those of us who have family in "Harm's Way". Great Aaron!

Aaron, this was my favorite from the contest. I'm amazed how much imagery and emotion you are able to convey with a "gimmicky" form like the abecedarian. Well-done, sir, well-done! d:-)

What a great poem of the day! You truly are a genius with words and using them as gift wraps for emotions.

The abecedarian is no easy task as I can attest. After numerous attempts I have failed miserably at making any semblance of meaningful order. But you have found the perfect words to express the dichotomy with good and bad, life and death, and war and peace. Congratulations on your success in the Winter Wonderland Poetry Contest too. This makes a fitting Poem Of The Day. Bravo!

Really clever in it's make up and a spot- on message. I'm feeling guiltier by the day :/ Congrats on POTD Aaron

Wow...not only did you do it, you did it well. Amazingly done, Aaron!
