Tampa Christmas, 2008

by Meghan Helmich

I have been creeping out
to the parking lot to stretch
over the car on my back and make
dew angels in the humidity.

There will be no tree this year,
despite the lots that came up
overnight - daffodil tents
and string lights dangling.

These are the seasons of no-vacancy,
full with absent friends dodging calls.
I wait all day for company.
Night comes quietly to my door.

Worthy capture Meghan of the loneliness some feel at Christmas.

I never got around to telling you that this was one of my favorites of the Christmas poem contest. (I was one of the secret judges, and it should have got at least an HM, in my opinion.) I especially loved the "dew angel" image - a very original piece.... d:-)
