Two Dutches

by Vikki Owens

I wish we had what you have,
such an easy life,
love so amazingly easy to understand,
your affection for each other is shown
through caresses of the tongue,
a parting of the hair,
your head bowed down, begging 'love me please'
and a willing answer, a kiss on the forehead.

You spend your days together,
huddled in your cozy home,
then exploring what is put before you
both separately and together, as the mood suits,
never NEEDING each other, but WANTING each other,
never following, but close behind,
you share your lives
with no talk, no noise, just gestures,
playfulness and authority
respect and forgiveness,
a hierarchy and order to your life
that isnt questioned
because it doesnt need to be,
you are what you are
and you are together...
