Shenandoah

by George Hoerner

i walk through you
and you
reveal yourself
to me

do you wear your spirit
hanging from branches

on your leaves
as they wave in the breeze
or in your mountain stream
where your sadness
is washed clean

valleys, hidden streams, caves
you open and invite me
to enjoy your beauty

you ask only gentleness
you return my spirit
whole to me

Author's Note: For any that don't know Shenandoah National Forest is in Virginia south west of DC a hundred or so miles. I used to hike there with a minister friend of mine who is no longer with us.

A place I would love to hike through. Thank you.

It is pretty beautiful. Thanks for making me think I ought to go back sometime.

Never been, but it sounds like just the right magic! Thanks for penning this lovely piece, George!
