BED SKIRT

by Terry Olynik

Your quicksilver skin
Against
My viral skin.

In a night
Of police sirens,
Toaster oven fires
And
Broken promises,
We plead
For air conditioned
Relief.

If tonight
Was indeed the night,
Under these violet sheets
Covered in cat hair
And
Unspecified remorse,
I knew
The jig was up -
When
You complimented me
On
My boots
And
My surrender.
