Empty Stars

by Alison McKenzie

I don’t hanker after a ring anymore,
Nor wonder about the wedding.

Do you see the empty stars
That fade across a black sky,
Who’s light is but a sparkle
Of a memory’s yearning?

It twirls ‘round my shrinking finger,
Catches the light of sun in the rain,
A long ago orb burning still
As a beacon of hope
In an otherwise futile time.

I cannot sleep,
But under closed lids
See the shifting geometric sands
Of another paradigm
Where you and I are
Inexplicable duality
Of individual unity.

Do you hear it?
It’s a moment of clarity
On an ocean of mud
Thick and glisten,
Just glisten…

I really like this Alison. And all things fade with the age of the stars. And from the fathoms of the ocean to the nearest star is a distance, a gap, which some how you hurdle with your words. Like gravity which touches us all.

Even mud glistens in the light! Hope is a beacon...keep on shining girl! Namaste MFS

Quite lovely, a mix of longing with acceptance. The last stanza does not want to leave my mind.
