a patch-work blanket

by Charlie Morgan

a package is being delivered; i wait.
i've been warned. a cool gift from God.

it'll be a he; a small, grown-up man.
one that want's to 'help you, Paapaw.'

a ball of magic in the form of a boy;
a David Copperfield with your heart.

i've seen him before, i know the look.
he'll be grinning and running to me.

he is King of the Zen Moment: Master.
fall leaves stir as his zooms by them.

completing a day's afternoon at Paapaw's
sews the stitches in his patch-work blanket
of tomorrows. i make sure he has my swatch.

"want's to 'help you, Paapaw.'" The bestest memories are when they wants to help you. Kind of like when washing the car becomes an excuse to chase you with the waterhose, just to make you scream in coldwater shock... so you're gonna be a gramps again. Congratulations! Everyone's bow should be so quivered... ;-D Wonderful poem Chaz. I know just what you mean by it.

Another wonderful write, Charlie. It's funny how much children remember and honor their grandparents; I'm sure he'll carry more than just your swatch in his quilt 'o memories. great job.
