Sundown Sunup

by George Hoerner

the sun is down
my sundial dark
providing no time
needed more than ever

days shorten
as does life
sunrise to sunset

running fast in
beaconless flight
direction is irrelevant
time has only one

and places
are the same
if the mind
wills it

but nights
turn into days
over and over
waiting for us
to learn
their secret
of renewal

Now, that's how you end an incredible piece of writing.

sunup and sundown are two old dogs as am I and we are teaching each other new tricks despite the saying to the contrary.
