We refer to different philosophies
but don’t follow any to the tee.
And we say things like “to the tee”
without knowing what it really means.

We make circles,
and we make fires together.
We make wooden ships,
and we make obelisks
that point towards heaven.

We turn our eyes to the outer weird
and avert them long before we glimpse,
and we prophesy the fin du temps
with idle hands in itchy beards.

Take the sin away.
Take a moment.
Take a breath, and swing an axe
before we freeze to death.
