another hot november by Mary Frances Spenceris california
really burning for her sins
i read that on a blog
dry hot geography
canyons plus winds
raging fire
from the tiniest spark
all combustibles
are equal
so please dont preach
online
because too many have lost
their screens
and a place to respond to
here we are
another hot november
sweating the news
and waiting for the santa anas
to stop
as ashes fall
and winter
waits
11/18/2008 Author's Note: We are really having the heat wave over here in Southern California, and the fires that seem to flare every year during this time. I'd like to send out positive intentions of hope and courage to those that have lost their homes during this time. Namaste MFS

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/20/08 at 12:04 AM Yes, "all combustibles are equal." Well done. |
Posted by Bruce W Niedt on 11/20/08 at 05:10 AM Excellent write that puts the "holier-than-thou" in their place, and captures the uncertain feeling of the situation - I love "as ashes fall/and winter/waits" - conjures up an image of ashes like snowflakes.... d:-) |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 11/20/08 at 04:43 PM ...such a healthly lament, overviewed[telescopically) but very shoulder to shoulder in feelings...touche! |
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 11/20/08 at 06:02 PM I love the opening line in this, and I'm sorry that Californians are going through this while I sit comfy in my rainy Oregon weather. |
