it could be by Charlie Morgannow could be that perfect time;
maybe the planets are aligned?
maybe i awoke in a doppleganger?
yesterday could be today, tired
and not finished, but here, still.
the cab driver nods to get in.
i enter the seat, swallowed in time.
and my armour hangs on a limp-will,
one that would rather talk about it.
a don't walk sign i've taped on my back,
alerting those with bad eyesight to read;
and still i'm bumped roughly and often.
the ride will stop; we'll egress smiling.
our peripheral vision playing catch-up
as we adjust our pants for the ride home.
or we'll walk city streets, tissue-boxes in hand;
looking for funerals to attend, mourn for the
lost-living who step from a Robert Bloch novel. 11/14/2008 Posted on 11/14/2008 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

Posted by Meghan Helmich on 11/14/08 at 06:22 PM i had to look up the robert bloch reference, but in hindsight, wonderful choice! the word play is fantastic, chaz. and adjusting our pants..it's all so very vulnerable and familiar.
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 11/14/08 at 06:28 PM Ya, I especially liked the pants adjustment reference. It brought a touch of blatant realism to this. Right at first, I expected this to go in a totally different direction, but where it ended up going was perfect!
Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 11/14/08 at 08:03 PM Right, you and me and Norman Bates should do lunch sometime. Remember, the one who can keep smiling when things go wrong has thought of someone else he can blame it on. Sometimes today, sometimes tomorrow....and like the "shower" scene, sometimes when we'd least expect it. Delighted, Chazman. Thanks.
Posted by Glenn Currier on 11/15/08 at 05:18 AM "swallowed in time" - uuuhhh... I'm gonna have to use that somewhere. Do I have your permission? What a ride you take me on with this one, Chaz. How observant your vision... probably because you are such a dedicated writer. Don't you think it sharpens your vision, makes you notice even more? Thanks Charlie.
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 11/15/08 at 05:56 AM You and I should go on a road trip sometime. The arguments alone would be worth it. Brilliant write.
