Mrs. McGreevey by Ryan NardiI think you had a lot to learn
in 1992,
and I hope by now,
like I have,
you have come to the conclusion
that you may have had something
when you told me I would
always "take the easy way out"
but frown back on those frowns,
the way your eyebrows twitched,
the way your face turned from tan to red.
I hope you don't
throw staplers across the room
when you get angry anymore--
or throw your stool
because your students
just won't stop being ten years old.
I hope you have become more human
and have left behind berating children
for speaking to each other without your permission
or neglecting to write out their long division
because they can do it in their heads. 11/12/2008 Author's Note: A letter to one of the speedbumps I've met along life's journey.

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/13/08 at 04:30 PM I like how you describe this teacher without totally shredding her as some might, and your hopes for her speak to your maturing. I don't know if that's a real name, but I can see some other fun poems made with it. |
