I Will Be Your Nanna Banana by Alison McKenzieWhen you smile at me,
The sun skulks,
Afraid of being replaced in my heart
By the likes of your brilliance.
I can see with crystal clarity
In my minds eyes,
Which do not need bifocals,
All the adventures we will have.
The towers well build
And all the Legos Ill have to keep on hand
For a cold winter days architecture.
The cookies well bake for Mama,
The handprint well put in clay for Daddy,
The pictures and the supplies Ill need
To create them.
The nature walks and the frogs
That hopefully wont end up in the wash.
The trips to the Zoo,
Where Ill explain that
Even though its cool to see those animals there,
They would be better off if we hadnt invaded their homes.
I will be your Nanna Banana,
Easy to be silly with me,
But full of the sweetest sort of nutrition.
Our treks to the beach and the sand,
Every time were together, a new adventure.
And I will count the blessings
The way all Grandmas do.

Posted by Rhiannon Jones on 11/10/08 at 01:23 PM Sweet and heartfelt. I love this. The reference to frogs in the wash is wonderful, as it nestles the future relationship in the arms of experience. |
