Slipping through this Window

by Alison McKenzie

There is a window of opportunity
Opened by pain,
The consequence of choices made -
Karma exacted so close to the transgressions.

It happens more and more like this,
Not having to wait for another lifetime
To experience the fruit of actions
In exchange for a flicker of indulgence,
A momentary lapse of reason
That leads to this grief.

I will slip through
And out into the cold, winter landscape,
Totally aware of why I am here,
Building a shelter in truth,
Bearing the weight of it
Close to the center
Of my womanhood -
The purpose of my being.

Lovely, heartfelt, self aware.
