I Tried

by Bek Williams

It doesn't make any sense
These things I am trying to learn
And teachers with funny accents
Confuse me, beyond the point of hope

Well, I saw it happen
Just like a flower
The life just faded right out of her
Bringing joy at first, then withering up

I tried to save her, I tried to save her
Or at least I liked to think I did
Things are always different one year later, than they actually were
Sitting in the back of a darkened classroom

I saw it happen, and
I didn't do anything
Sitting in a front yard with
My head in my hands

I cried
I only wanted to be normal
I tried (so hard)
I only wanted to be normal...

Definitely sounds like you walked through a bit of the fire, so to speak. Well done indeed.
