Purple Purple Pillowcase by Alison McKenzie
ItÂ’s my turn to make the bed,
But I donÂ’t want to do it today.
I donÂ’t know why.
It always feels so good,
Smooth covers to greet me
Every time I come into the room.
A feeling of orderliness,
Structure,
Security,
Simple little things, really,
When the world outside
Is crazy.
But today I donÂ’t want to comply,
DonÂ’t want to fit my world
Into that tidy little box of
“Just so.”
But just watch,
IÂ’ll do it anyway,
That Virgo compulsion toward perfection;
That Libra stretch for balance
Beyond the lazy tendencies.
Besides, it is my turn
To make the bed
So I can sleep in it later,
Working through all the karma
IÂ’ve cultivated with my own fine hands.
*sigh*

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 10/24/08 at 11:28 PM Nice photo. Is it a quilt and did you make it? Very pretty. Making the bed - a solid symbol of order each day - I like how you've explored this. |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 10/25/08 at 04:22 AM Gorgeous photo, and a pretty awesome piece of writing to go alongside it as well. |
Posted by Charlie Morgan on 10/25/08 at 10:50 PM ...ali, let me bounce on this, more ways than one, [don't go there]...the pic is a smack-0 added attraction to the 'ride' of the words that greet the reader, when you start w/:
It’s my turn to make the bed,
But I don’t want to do it today.
I don’t know why.
(beautifully = to life, so paradoxical.
and then this one:
A feeling of orderliness,
Structure,
Security,
Simple little things, really,
When the world outside
Is crazy.
...queen of cute turning into terrfic.
