Rudy paints-away his life by Charlie Morganbathroom walls are repainted by Rudy, near daily.
his sweaty eyes squint as he spews out a breath of disgust.
as he asks the unanswerable question of: Why?
me in my wisdom i answer back: because!
that doesn't work, at least to please him.
he's asking someone taller than me.
someone who lives in the clouds.
at least he's asking. no answers come his way;
none he can accept through his 50 years of life.
yet, he tapes and sloshes paint back on.
a shrug will get you ten if you can answer
a workable answer for him, his eyes of disgust.
so he stirs, knows not who graffited.
he's gonna show-up tomorrow, same place. here.
he'll have the same question, he'll paint over
all the self-expressions, and he'll figure
college is about this? how can that be?
because is an answer, just not one for him.
he wants a real answer, like the paint he uses.

| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 10/21/08 at 03:19 PM I think "be" "cause" is the ONLY answer. Hehe. |

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 10/21/08 at 07:39 PM I like so much about this - the daily drag of senselessness covered over by someone who needs a better answer, and Rudy's coming back to do what needs to be done in spite of the questioning. Great last line. |
