Wolf

by George Hoerner

the wolf is at the door
he doesn't know
Mother Hubbard's
cupboard is bare
and he's already eaten
all the King's men
with all King's horses
and licked up
what's left of
Humpty Dumpty

he'll huff and puff
try to blow your
house down to the ground
he won't run 'round
the mulberry bush
and he says
'An apple a day
is insufficient pay'

he refuses to play
with a farmer in the dell
and thou hark, hark
the dogs do bark
he stands his ground
says 'he's seen the ship
a sailing into the storm'
but it's raining and pouring
cats and dogs
thought he'd heard
but doesn't believe
in one for the money

like Simple Simon
he'll skip to my Lou
and see if he can find
the woman living in the shoe
while the wise old owl
watches as
London bridge
is falling down

so mr wolf will wait
for Yankee Doodle
to come to town
to fix this mess

Oh I love it, George! I thoroughly enjoy "spoofing" standards just for fun and you've done a great job of mixing this up for us. Outstanding!

Well played parody, man. Pretty bloody brilliant.

Brilliant in the way the nursery rhymes and cliches hide a profound message. I also love the rhymes. They bring a smile and a chuckle inspite of the dizzying and dazzling fix we are in.

What a way to take something you know and make it grow...
