As It Were

by Joe Cramer

This pen of ecstasy

Purloins more words

On a page, easily.

I wish my life were

The same, it is not.

I wonder what

Will eventually

Become of me

As it were.

Emotional undertones quite evident. Were words my life I'd be doing great exploits Alas, my words also too often lack the energy And I am left to console myself with lesser words

when life is difficult, the quill exalts for reason that it has something to write about. if our lives were composed entirely of ease and of leisure, I doubt seriously if we would devote an iota of time to writing, rather we should be pursuing other venture for writing is a painful enterprise at best and only made facile when our life is not so on a predictable path but rather is something to figure out and words are a way to venture into that figuring.
