nineteen twenty-nine, meet two thousand eight. by Jared Fladelandcosmonauts think dirty thoughts
in the vacuum emptiness of space,
i'm alone in a bottle of gin
pushing images of shadow and light
out of my head.
broke is the glass of a fragile house.
spit lands in all-too-dry dirt
as hands grind through fields and fields
of weeds, potatoes, insects, and the garbage
of the superior species.
crumbling is the house of greens.
dank mud with a whiff of mold
as i retreat to the cellar to
build a machine to take my soul to
a perfect balmy eighty degrees:
a twelfth floor window parachute
that fails ninety percent of the time.
to dust returns a house made of wood
blown down by the big bad wolf.

| Posted by George Hoerner on 09/30/08 at 01:11 PM Yes, and the "terrorists" had to do nothing but let us self destruct. Greed is the bottom line of so much we do. Greed and power will turn in a minute if given half a chance. And I agree with Gabe regards POTD. |

| Posted by Meghan Helmich on 09/30/08 at 02:47 PM should 'broke' be 'broken' or am i just reading this wrong? a good read nonetheless. |
| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 09/30/08 at 06:14 PM "crumbling is the house of greens." You are dead on. This is the wildest wind I've ever lived through. Where did I put those wolf traps??? I like all the different houses you present here.

| Posted by Katerina T Nix on 10/03/08 at 12:11 AM Oh Jared, I know I haven't been around lately, but it's so good to read you again. I really like the line: 'broke is the glass of a fragile house'. I think the whole world is our glasshouse, and we are all throwing stones. Beautiful work. -Kat :) |
