A Poem

by George Hoerner

i've seen this word
a hundred times, no
a thousand times
in my life
and suddenly
it strikes me

maybe it was
a different color
a different speaker
or did i see it
in large print

maybe i heard it
blared across
radio speakers or
was it whispered
by the wind
across some
span of time

that is no issue
it matters only
that now the word
takes up residence
in my mind
thrashing about
searching for
other words

it goads and prods
waking its siblings
asking for direction
or pointing the way
saying there must
be more to this
and sometimes
finishing in a poem

I like your word search and how you seeking are a thought being sought. A poem, a thought that colors difference, maybe all the while it can show the same... Enjoyed this, George.

I'm right there with you...trying to put the "words" together is always a fun search for our individual expression! MFS

"maybe i heard it blared across radio speakers or was it whispered by the wind across some span of time."--I love this entire stanza. The whole thing is packed with sparse, beautifully captured imagery. I don't think it's better summed up than here.

...catch that word, xerox it and i.m. it back to me; i've been looking for the same one...love the intrigue you leave me/the reader with on 'that word' touche touche!

One wants to shout, "Eureka" when that word hits just right! Especially when writing to communicate an idea or feeling. Right on! Write on!

I am certain George, you will hear that word a few thousand times more before the muses pack it in. Its a lovely word, one of the loveliest in the field, which to reap and to cup to our ear is to render unto that organ music as ear has never heard.
