fall back by Mary Frances Spencerback to
starts tomorrow
another summer of kids
diving jumping
swimming
too fast a blur
beach afternoons
their childhoods halfway
there
in the tangle of
sandy towels
a pile of shells
shines in the sun
reflecting
mother of pearl
memories
as they roll
new backpacks
toward fall
into the gates
school
homework
the future
and I
wave
together

Author's Note: My kids go back to school tomorrow! It's been a hectic, yet fun summer. Their childhood is just flying by! MFS

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 09/06/08 at 03:16 PM I like the way you use fall in the title MF, and how what follows reflects it. Excellent closing off in that last stanza. All the best to you and the kids for this latest school season! :o) |
