Lightning Flash

by Kristina Woodhill

The lightning flashes,
as if to say,
"take a closer look
at this photo-op day.

You're too used
to sportin' those
ray-ban shades -
thin lipped faces
hidin' thick mental
haze."

"Kaboom! kaboom!"
adds a deep drummed
call -
sticks
hit the ground
in a hail of
iced balls.

Attempts to impress
deaf plugged-in ears,
inner beats deadened
from outer beats' fears.

The wind whip
adds its own special brand
slicked straight
with the rain
dripped in apathetic
sand.

The man stands naked,
stripped muscles
flanks raw;
the woman's breasts heave,
heart pumped
lungs draw.

The child does a dance
in the puddles that stream
through the smog smeared
streets of adults' blind dreams.

Touch a toe to the water
skip a rock on concrete
fling a hat to the sky
see the lightning flash speak.

This is a hell of an answer! I've said before that rhyme doesn't usually appeal to me, but this is definitely and exception. I found myself nodding in agreement as I read the first 5 stanzas, then smiling and nearly laughing with delight at the final three. A phenomenal bit of poetry, this. Kudos, Kristina.

I have to say you truly did this challenge justice! Great job!

Very well done Kristian! So many need the sun to shine as if they carry no light within! Just the children know!

Great description of a thunder storm with the added plus of symbolism of human relationships.

Oh what a wonderful storm you've captured here. I truly love the second to last stanza. Beautiful just beautiful. -bf

Your attention to detail in this electric poem is quite admirable, Kristina. It has a spiritual quality with a sensual blend that Nature would both envy and admire.
