six by Maria Francescathe traffic's roaring
the dog is snoring
the children are laughing out loud
the atmosphere's ringing
with crying and singing
and noise from the growing crowd
six billion people all in one place
six billion people sharing space
all of us raving-
a deafening riot
all of us craving a moment of quiet
an hour of stillness
a minute of silence
a chance to escape from this audio violence
the consequence is crystal clear:
the more you yell
the less I hear
the less I hear
the more I shout -
nobody knows what we're screaming about
six billion people on one small planet
six billion people-
how can you stand it?
blasting the radio -
more bad news
all of us lonely, afraid and confused
all of us shrieking and dancing like clowns
laughing our heads off all over town
crying like babies in hidden places-
six billion people
with twelve billion faces 02/06/2000 Posted on 08/19/2008 Copyright © 2024 Maria Francesca
