At 2:15 Precisely

by Alison McKenzie

This time of day,
2:15 am precisely,
Is where I find my magic -
Heart of my heart,
Who lives only within
The twilight twixt awake and asleep.

The sleepy hush of darkness saturates,
Broken hearts washed and tucked-in for the night.
The cool breeze smoothes away
The tight jaws and furrowed brows
Of these long, scorching, summer days.

At last the quiet.

Peace sustains my weightless awareness,
The crush of stress slowly abated
Over the course of these fragile years,
A patient truth waiting
In the waltz of my sweetheart’'s dreaming.

Oh, he is not really come for me,
Not in physicalities or phone calls,
At least, not yet…
But in the hush of my sleepiest consciousness,
On the edges of what is real
And what I dream in vivid sentience,
There he waits for me with folded hands,
And a book of everything he'’s written.

His love is absolute,
And tonight, at 2:15 am precisely,
I feel it deeper than any other knowing.

The edges of the mind seem to be the most creative and sometimes the most real. Well done Alison.

"The twilight twixt awake and asleep" time for realization...such quiet energies in the middle of the night, for reflection which you do so well here! MFS

I would like my heart to be washed and tucked-in for the night.

How gentle, this, to an onlooking soul. Jill

Wistful and dreaming, restful yet vivid, and somehow a dream you touch all the senses reeling, beautiful. smh
