cow by Kristina Woodhilli grind my teeth on grapenuts in the morning
i find that satisfying as i stretch into the day
i sprinkle just a bitofthem on top the cheerios
and splash a pourofmilk to let them swim about and play
no time allowed to soften all those nutty chunks of hard
no slurry left - i chew and ruminate with steady ease
a morning-show avoidance i've accomplished through the years
no paper's editorials to spread some whine with cheese
miss m, the cat, is lounging near the feeder, lazy-eyed
the fountain project once again is on the fritz and still
the bird bath that it has become, reflects the slowly rising sun
while hazy smoking air of summer drifts the distance hills
and for now, la-la, la-la
i would be a cow, la-la
and peacefully,
non-stressfully,
enjoy this break of day

| Posted by Brian Francis on 07/31/08 at 02:20 PM We fool ourselves into thinking we got it made with all our nifty gadgets and stuff. But a simple sunrise and the cool morning dewy grass are some how more. Oh to be a cow. --bf |
| Posted by David Hill on 10/06/08 at 10:49 PM I admire your variety. I like the way you shrink down the world in this piece. Sometimes I wonder if we can ever succeed at being “global.” I hpoe the "information age" gets gone soon.
