another summer yesterday

by Charlie Morgan

a lazy wind blew it's breath over the grasses;
bent each stalk as though tiny anvils were lain
on the backs of each stalk making them take a bow.

green, melding into brown, tan and burnt orange;
the colors of summer in an eastTexas landside,
blustering it's happiness in growth spurts.

'wallermellons, next rite' the sign said,
painted in a nervous, sun-bonneted hand;
scribbled in country love and innocence.

the old farmer and his wife flitted from
cucumbers to canteloupes to chick peas;
all while their city cousins squeezed.

the beating sun pelted the last of the day
with it's 8 minute train of daylight's glow
we curled in the beard of the afternoon.

This poem sparked memories of summers on my grandparents farm... the essence of a hot summer is the same...no matter the location. A beautiful picture Chaz!

Charlie, I think this ode is an endearing way to unload to Nature. to say Nature, my friend, I got my eye on you. you please the eye as well as the soul and Nature please don't go, when I need you most. I am lost sans you, as is my soul..Nature you were born that I might be cupped in you ever loving palm. the notion of that makes me calm. if not for you, I would be cupped in the palm of King Kong. and I don't believe I'd survive the squeeze. so please Nature won't you stay? don't go away from our ever loving range, the way Shane did. Shane, Shane, don't leave. I will grieve if you do.
