Blue Crystal Eyes (for Paul)

by Alison McKenzie

This is a song I wrote back in the day, while I was married to Joey's dad, Paul.

Sadness,
I see
Sadness
In those blue, crystal eyes.

I see
Distant memories of pain,
In those blue,
Blue cyrstal eyes.

(Chorus)
Honey I'm so sorry
That I couldn't make you smile.
I tried so hard
All the while
I didn't, no I didn't
Take the pain away.

Honey I'm so sorry
That I couldn't light the way
I tried so hard
Every day
But I didn't, no I didn't
Take the pain away.

Sadness,
I see
Sadness
In those blue,
Blue crystal eyes.

Author's Note: Dedicated to Paul Ryan 1963 - 2005. Simple, but exactly how I felt when I was with him. I wanted so badly to give him happiness. He'd had such a traumatic childhood. But this was obviously before I realized that happiness is an inside job, and no one can give it to you. I hope, in his later years, he found some measure of it.

Powerfully tragic but highly sensitive piece of writing Alison. Perhaps someday Paul will read this, and it will send him in a new positive direction.

I wish I could hear this sung; it's beautiful!
