frozen. by Kalikala SmithHow can I even begin to speak,
when all the world is listening,
to the white noise in their heads?
How can I even try to cut through,
do they want to listen to,
me?
Is there something I'm missing,
something I've lost,
something I've taken for granted,
and can't find it?
Oh where do I go?
Oh what do I say?
Oh how can I lay my head down,
when the solid ground,
is you, and me, and them, and we,
are silent.
What does anyone want to hear anymore?
What can they offer but glass houses
you can't throw stones in?
How could I even try to cut through,
when all they want to do is hole up and rock,
back, and forth, and back, and forth,
in silence. 06/25/2008 Author's Note: Went to a show where the audience was semi-engaged in the performance. I walked out at the end, went to my car, and cried. How much of the world is in a cocoon that they're not affected by emotions, music, poetry, art, love?

Posted by George Hoerner on 06/25/08 at 02:47 PM Very well done lady. Yes, we tend to live our lives in a cocoon. We only open up a little to breath, allow in those bits and pieces which make us comfortable, and allow out only the smallest piece of ourselves out. If you don't know what is out there it can't upset you. Nicely done! |
Posted by Joe Cramer on 06/25/08 at 04:18 PM This is quite exceptional, I enjoyed the depth and breadth of the work with its remarkable intensity. A new favorite for me... thanks for sharing.... |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 06/25/08 at 05:20 PM Nice job - depressingly true. The first three lines really set the tone for a solid follow-through. |
Posted by John Harder on 06/26/08 at 05:13 PM it's so sad that people are deaf to what they need to hear. well said. |
Posted by Tim D Livingston on 06/27/08 at 01:33 AM I love the glass houses analogy. When I try to make a point there's always a weakness somewhere in what I'm saying even though it may be emotionally charged. There are some who may miss the meaning and throw a rock at the weak spot. So I analyze some of the things I say from many angles to try and make it solid difficult to penetrate. But you're so right. We are all desensitized to various degrees. We are bombarded with so much media and commercialism. People are paying millions to get a few seconds of our minds. Our whole economy is based on this cycle. And with so much stimulation it can easily just turn into static. And silence seems like a distant stranger. So very well done Kali! |
