Cicada Symphony

by Kristina Woodhill

cicada song surge
you own the air waves
this thirteen years of waiting to sing
this urge
through closed windows at highway speed
I hear you clearly
you celebrate emergence with abandon
your crescendos silence any song bird
in these Kentucky hills

Author's Note: I am awed to have heard this the past two days traveling through Kentucky.

You catch the sound (just loud to me)most empahtically in this very short but very descriptive poem. (I hear it as cocaphony!)

I heard this in Kyoto, as you did in Kentucky!! The sound is as you say, and yes the "air waves" are totally taken over. It gives me chills to think of this- on par with a thunderstorm, a heavy rain, in it's all consuming power, which you communicate with intensity here.
