Legion of Four Thousand by Fredrich Mohre
*It was announced that on March 24, 2008, the U.S. death
toll rose to 4,000 in Iraq.
Twas a Legion of Four Thousand
Brave warriors from this land.
Who left their homes and families
To take a stalwart stand.
Horns wailed the battle anthems
They charged into the fray.
When the battles smoke had cleared,
Wars wraiths took them away.
They fell on fields of honor
Their blood the sands imbibed.
Now gallant, brave young soldiers
Youre in our hearts, enscribed.
To this Legion of Four Thousand
We raise our torches high
In tribute to their courage,
As in flag blown fields they lie.
To all who knew this legion
Their task is still undone.
Lets honor all their sacrifice
And see this battle won.
Move forward, on to victory
Through hardship and through pain;
So our departed heroes
Will not have died in vain.
The mournful Taps is blowing.
Now home from distant lands,
Young Legion of four thousand,
Sleep well in hallowed hands
