To Love You Quietly by Ken HarnischTo love you quietly
Is all I have anymore
To place you at the foot
Of an altar, where the candles of
Love have never flagged,
Letting them bathe you in the light
While I pray in the shadows
Not for deliverance,
But for understanding
I never sought from you
What you could not give
But you never failed to know
Exactly what I sought
We are unique;
So is this.
As it always has been;
As it always will be

Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 05/25/08 at 05:39 AM this is pretty...in a masculine way of course. capturing vivid imagery of a man and woman realizing the truth that they're one of a kind is a beautiful thing. well written ken...word choice is elegant and very profound. |

Posted by Mo Couts on 07/29/11 at 11:47 AM There's a Billie Holiday song where the lyric I'll quote is "unrequited love's a bore but I've got it pretty bad, but for someone you adore, it's a pleasure to be sad...more than glad to be unhappy" and...yes, that's usually how it goes. Unrequited love seems so unfair but the pleasure we get from the loving itself more than makes up for it. Awesome poem, Ken. |
