facsimile. by Andrew S Adamsnext to this puddle,
the sand in the sidewalk
cracks
sits in for the beach while
a streetlight covers for the moon;
i remember last year-
before the scene wore thin,
and this moment was a
quiet walk by the lake;
but there
the moon was full,
and the lake was more than
stale rainwater;
stars reached down and cradled us
in warmth
while the crickets sang their song
to a sky with no ears
trying it's hardest to listen anyway;
and between us,
an unbroken silence guided us
through the waters
locked in a perfect moment;
but walking with you tonight across
a makeshift beach under
fluorescent moonlight,
the point long rendered
meaningless
i dig my toes into the dirty
sand and try to think of
better times. 05/16/2008 Posted on 05/16/2008 Copyright © 2024 Andrew S Adams

Posted by Bruce W Niedt on 05/19/08 at 02:54 AM Just checking in to see what you were up to these days, and I was rewarded with this poem. Melancholy rendering of a faltering relationship, but the analogy of the fluorescent lights, the puddle and the sandy sidewalk cracks to a moonlight lake's beach is extraordinary - a memorable image - nice work.... d:-) |
