The Fee

by George Hoerner

you see
there is a fee
so many words
such a short story
should i worry
that fate
so fickle
as the wind
will carry this
no where
if i don't pay

the leaves pay
with their fall color
and they
are carried
by the wind to
a resting place

the water pays
the oceans
the streams
as they service
the fish
providing sustenance
a home

are the pains
in my veins
running
through
my mind
sufficient recompense
for the
original sin
of birth

some say
i'll pay
for my life
one way
or another

...good *smack-0* lil' ditty on something so heavy...yea, fee and it's like the balloon payment at the end of a lease-car...it's a doozy! charlie

for all the things we pay for in this life, I am glad I am able to read your soul stirring poetry sans a fee, my friend. Hope that condition will last. Yet as much as life expenses break me,I must say, George, that your poetry puts much dinero in my mind's pockets and there is beyond ample jingling whenever I turn my attention to your Library.
