Words

by Jennifer Ragan

Underneath the words that slice
Hidden deep from view
Beneath the flesh and bones that break
Words pierce, like a tattoo

When the words have found a lair
A hollowed home to dwell
Wounds of scorn crust into shame
Inside their prison cell

When the words are all used up
There’s nothings more to say
Pierced into the psyche
Etched in stone they’ll stay

Nice write lady. It seems that as poets we love words and twist and turn them to express our own reality. You've done a great job here!

I love a good rhyme. You've given some strong images of words mis-used. A thoughtful piece.
