AWAKE!

by George Hoerner

angry white-capped waves
pound the shore
trying to set off
an ecological alarm clock
that might wake
the dead or dying

some fish shine with mercury
although too lightly to be seen
with the naked eye

arctic oceans loose
their frozen ice packs
dying quickly as they warm

the earth cries
it is out of tune
and out of time

and few are
taking any notice

"Out of tune and out of time"... so true...we all need to wake up and address this issue. MFS

End of the world as we know it indeed. Nice.

I've heard a prophecy about a polar shift coming....and this sounds just like it.

Wow. I felt such angst and heartbreak with this. What a great write! 'the earth cries out / it is out of tune / and out of time' - I've been reading some magazines and passages that point to the harsh reality of why we are so far off course. Good call to action! ~N

This is the perfect poem to send to the Letters to the Editor and the Poetry section of local newspapers. True and heartstopping message, and wonderfully written. ~ Jill

God blesses the ecologically aware and you George are blessed more than most that its torment does not slip your notice nor your quill's, about what is going down with nature, our own very blessed Mother.
