Stir Up the Mud by Alison McKenzieHeÂ’s a rusty bucket
And my water is muddy.
So maybe we shouldnÂ’t mingle
But the attraction is just too natural
And I love the sound of
Water hitting rust.
He lives in a backyard far away,
While I, mobile, gather myself up
To fall wherever the next rain takes me.
You see, as friends go,
I love to visit his neighborhood
The kindest letters on every street sign
And students laughing on their way out of class
He pretends to teach, while they pretend to learn.
He is lovely and doesnÂ’t know.
You might wonder if a rusty bucket
Has anything of value to offer –
ItÂ’s all there,
Even the rust and the way it eats at me,
The very nicest way to stir up the mud.
