cheers, darling. by Meghan Helmichsmoke puzzles and bleeding lines -
pieces of monday night.
i turn corners from sleep,
that inconspicuous shadow.
her sneer gouges and spits
behind my eyes.
these are pointless attempts
to pare her from your thoughts.
dear dear dear - my love, my heart.
you go to dinner with mom and dad.
present and marinate an idea
of promising daughter in law.
your project, frozen investment
in patience. a poised statue
of bliss and dark hair.
tiger on a lead. 04/22/2008 Author's Note: revised 6/13/08

Posted by Frank Lee on 08/22/08 at 12:25 AM I really like the title of this and the first stanza....as a whole it really paints a vivid picture. nice work. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 11/15/08 at 05:03 AM I get the sense of frustration and disappointment with something over which the subject has little or no power. As my mama used to say, "Love is blind." Based on my sheer curiosity, the poem invites me into this entanglement yet let's me know the shadow I would enter. |
